iPad - flop or revolution?

Apple just introduced its new product, the iPad . At first sight, it is true that as is, there is nothing transcendent: it looks like a big iPod Touch .

In reality, Apple has given a vector, whose true value is probably not yet fully perceived, probably on purpose, why give weapons to the competition?

However, some have understood the potential threat: the booksellers like Amazon , content authors such The New York Times, publishers of content delivery tools such as Adobe ...

The target is the content: books, video, music, ...
The fly in the round: the majors, publishers, booksellers, printers and everything revolves around ... The
ally implicit Amazon and Google , and generally, all those who scan or produce digital content. Needless to say it is unthinkable that Google and its digital library project does not ensure its own version of the iPad, which s'appuirait on or Android OS Chrome ...

Strategy:
  1. iPad disseminate widely, that is to say create a market for this, he relies on thousands of existing iPhone applications and games, including new versions will take advantage of the big screen
  2. have incentive pricing policy for content producers, content where the author clearly sees that earns more for each copy sold via the iPad via traditional circuits. This policy sits heavily on a broadcast "live", ie without going through the usual intermediaries of traditional distribution channels
  3. sign some big names that will ensure and promote the iPad and "initiate pump "
  4. rely on the buzz around Apple iPad, or" if you do not your book on the iPad, you're a loser! "

From there, the iPad will eventually attract:
  • those reporting short-run books or technical specialist, film writers, authors unknown, ...
  • those who spread widely but will they could earn more ... which suggests some renegotiations of contracts with publishers
  • those who could not spread far: rejected by publishers, or frightened by the weight and complexity of the task that represents the publication of a book, or by the circuit around the production of a film

Beyond that, we can predict change forms of writing and producing content because iPad model allows anyone to publish the content they want without having to go into the usual guns.

derisory offer ebooks in French and attitude editors

Amazon announces availability of its platform Digital Text Platform to increase the supply of ebooks French for his Kindle in France (source: Journal du Geek ).

The compensation model proposed by Amazon seems inspired by what we find on the Apple Store for iPhone (Apple ) and the Android Market to Android (Google ): " Authors may submit their works, set prices and recover 35% of the amount of each of their sales. .

is an interesting initiative which aims to overcome the unwillingness of publishers in France and actors that revolve around a general way: authors, publishers, copyright holders, printers, booksellers, ... It is also and above all a process that aims to do so without since those would be legitimate for refuse to do it. This initiative comes in addition to that of Google who was convicted Dec. 18, 2009 for digital works without permission .

Until the French publishers (broadly defined above) will be cautious attitude towards the digitization of works , nothing much changed. The problem is that they are in an attitude of sterile opposition "until everything is not perfect, I do not move because I do not want to risk losing anything." ... The situation can not progress because too many players have too much to lose, starting with the printers and booksellers whose business itself is threatened, and that authors, publishers and rights holders are too afraid of losing part of what should be theirs!

It would be vastly preferable that all stakeholders - authors, publishers, copyright holders, printers, booksellers, ... - Adopt a more constructive attitude acknowledging that the move to digital is inevitable but that it must manage by defining what they want, what they do not want, they may the opportunities they foresee. This would allow them to work with actors like Amazon and Google to improve their proposal by identifying means necessary - in the broadest sense - to the transition to digital, by federating initiatives, coordinating actors, organizing the transition from craft trades such as printers and booksellers ...

If a pre-requisite that it will take players of publishing - authors, publishers, ... - Eventually admit is that the future will not, can not, must not be like the past. Digitize works revolutionize the practice of reading, consulting, "consumption" of works. And consequently, probably also the practices of writing ... France can not stay behind evolution, or evolution will eventually occur as parallel tracks. These are precisely the conditions of this development that Amazon is trying to put up with his initiative. And the publishing world (broadly defined) has more to lose than gain from this attitude of folds.

So much support - participate, guide and promote - the movement rather than endure it! ... French cultural exception - which we have seen the movie it was so necessary to the survival of an independent cultural expression and quality - will be even more respected ... and probably even imitated around the world.

What Happens When A Rack & Pinion Breaks

The new arms race will be green - Editorial

In its editorial of November 21, 2009, Intelligent Automata examines the changing nature of the arms race that would more on green technologies than on conventional weapons. China and would lead this race.

Introduction of the editorial of Intelligent Automata
"
An article by Robert F. Kennedy
[NDR The New Arms Race ] , senator's son who died recently published in the Huffington Post , the formula for American readers a finding of common sense. An observation often made elsewhere in our columns, and that Europeans should, in our opinion, meditate. The sources of productivity and sustainable growth for the future lie less in traditional industries and technologies in those associated with so-called green technologies. Gold in the competition between the major economic sectors for the control of green, China (not to mention India) is taking a significant lead over the United States (not to mention Europe). "

The results of the assessment and conclusion of GEAB

" For this assessment 2009, and reached a total of 26.5 points on 37, 72% success. This is worse than in 2008 (80%), but 2009 has been particularly marked by the unprecedented actions of States (explosion of debt, no consideration to support banks, handling accounting rules, ...) to stem the crisis and often to temporarily hide the consequences. We hope that this score we keep the trust of our customers and our readers. "

GEAB analysis of the reality of the economic recovery

" Failing to occur in 2009, you can be sure it will be the "monster of Loch Ness" Media and Leaders in 2009. They will see it all at the turn of the next quarter or semester. Each week, experts will find in this or that indicator indicates that the early beginning of the end of the crisis is emerging. Do not be fooled. There will be no recovery in 2009 ...
This anticipation was made in January 2009 and was faced with general policies who were just initiated. The one we have reformulated the end of summer 2009 was a direct response to the cries of victory "on the effect of these policies. So these are two fair expectations, on similar themes, but at different times and in different contexts.
"
